The RSA brief of 'Caring Culture' asked the question:
“How might we improve the lives of older adults and their carers by encouraging and enabling cultures, and higher standards, of care?”
The Easy-Pz concept came from primary and secondary research conducted into catheter care in Ireland. Our research found that catheter care in Ireland is extremely poor - with most home carers receiving no practical training on how to change a suprapubic catheter. There is no product on the market for the patients themselves to learn and practice care for their catheter. This is leading to complications with the catheters and thus long wait times in GP practices and hospitals.
The Easy-Pz kit is a task trainer that can be used by suprapubic catheter patients, as well as carers, to effectively train how to change their catheter at home.
