WINNER OF THE 2024 IDI GRADUATE DESIGN AWARD IN FURNITURE DESIGN.
Objects from Frames (OFF) is a project about bicycles, subcultures, and the lives of objects. A narrative driven and design-led exploration of the structural and adaptive potential of components and manmade forms.
OFF takes the familiar shape of the bicycle in heavily used or end-of-life condition — an object with its own rich culture, connotations and personality — and asks it to perform a new function in the domestic environment. The final pieces display an honest physicality and do not hide their former function, wearing their use with an earnest pride. The intent is not to up-cycle, but rather pay homage, recognising the meaning and intangible value of the materials used and craft involved.
